An estimated 11,000 people filled Pack Square Park on March 28 for the No Kings rally, one of the largest single-day gatherings the park has seen in this run of demonstrations. I was there to photograph it as it happened.
The crowd was a mix of first-time protesters and people who have been showing up to these events for a while. Signs covered a wide range of issues, from immigration and foreign policy to the environment and civil rights, but the through line across the park was the same each time I’ve covered one of these: people who felt they needed to be there in person, not just online.
As with the previous rallies in this series, the afternoon included a march through downtown streets before the crowd returned to the park.
The photos below are what I saw. No staging, no posed shots, just the day as it unfolded from where I was standing.
